I spent a lot of time in my grandfather's lap when I was young, learning every game you could play with a deck of cards, from Uno to poker. At 19, poker really started to change my life. Getting by in my one bedroom apartment trying to make ends meet, I was invited to a 7 card stud game one night. I had never played that game, but what the hell, it's just a game. When I got there, I found out they had started playing flop poker, or as I knew it, Riverboat poker, now known as Texas Holdem'.
I counted the days till I turned 21 and could go and play in a casino. When that day finally arrived, me, my cousin, and some of my buddies loaded up and headed to the nearest casino for some real poker playing. I was going to sit down with new faces and real card sharks and either beat them or learn a very expensive lesson. We entered a No Limit Tournament -- 563 players. I took 23rd Place, finishing in the money.
When I went home, I started playing in every game I could sit down at. One night, I was in a 400+ pot with a gentleman and I had pocket 10's. He became very aggressive and started taunting me to call. 9 of Hearts, 4 of Clubs, and 2 of Clubs was on the Flop. He bet and I quickly mucked my hand. "Why didn't you call?," he asked. "I can't beat a set.", I told him. He looked down at his stack and looked back at me and laughed, "$500 says I don't have a set." he said. Well the whole table got real quiet. As I sat there for a moment, I knew in my gut I was right and agreed to his bet. I don't know why, but I guessed a set of Dueces. He waited a second and then grinning cheaply he said, "Your right, that's what I have. I bet big thinking your on a flush draw. You read me well." The whole table gasped as he showed his cards and then went wild. One of my buddies started calling me "The Analyst" after that night. Some players still only know me by that nickname, but the best part was that I made an extra $500.
Aces Full Poker, The Company
About 3 years ago, a few of us were sitting in Cafe Firenza thinking of how nice it would to be sitting there playing poker. I started researching Alabama's gambling laws and checking out other people that had started similar businesses and just knew that this is what I was born to do. No more 9 to 5 meaningless jobs, I decided to take my passion for poker and run with it. Poker runs through my veins and that's how I run my company with
passion, conviction, and loyalty.
I got my business license and other permits I needed and started making deals with local Birmingham bars and taverns to allow me to host a Texas Holdem' Poker night in their establishment, bringing in more people and more revenue for the owners. Three years later, I'm running the hottest poker scene in Birmingham, offering people Texas Holdem' tournaments all week long around the Birmingham area and now hosting special events and private parties.
